Women ROCK! Triathlons

Women Rock at Rockport State Park was a great tri with fabulous weather- finally out of the HOT, HOT Las Vegas desert. It was a speedy bike course and I had my PR on my bike! And the run (read walk) was gorgeous through hills of wildflowers. This race course is definitely a keeper! I can't wait to do it again next year! (Note: I will camp in the park instead of waiting for the dreadful bus).

The smile of a girl who knows she rocked her bike today!

Race Times

Swim 750m: 26:49
Uber SLOW! What happened? I dunno. My goal was 18 - no where close!

T1:3:27

Bike 12.4mi: 53:07
Weeee!

T2 2:01

Run 5K: 44:17
Yes. That is S.L.O.W. BUT (there's a but) I am nursing my recovering knee surgery/heel spur/planters faciitis pain and am not suppose to run so I (ahem) strolled through the wildflowers a bit

TOTAL TIME: 2:09:39
That's 7 minutes faster! Can I get a Woot Woot!?!

Don't be a FRED!

Totally unknown to me was this term "Fred". The name elites call us beginners when we do such things as leave our reflectors on, cover ourselves in chain grease, etc.

So my girlfriend and I headed out at 4am to volunteer and watch said pros at the Rage Triathlon at Lake Mead. Our goal: learn how to transition correctly (aka: not be a FRED)

Wow! It was amazing to watch what fast looks like! We were so busy body marking and running transition that I hardly got a chance to learn how to transition faster myself! I guess I will be a FRED for a while yet!

Sprint TRI Lessons #1

Today I did a "practice" triathlon out at Lake Mead with XCELL and was totally surprised by the results. Lesson learned:

1. I can run after biking almost 14 miles!
2. I can bike after swimming 800 meters!
3. I will finish IronGirl!
4. Wet suits make open water swimming 1000% better!
5. Pack an inhaler on my bike and in my water bottle for the run (oh, and...).
6. Don't forget a water bottle for the run!
7. Body Glide behind my knees too.
8. Oops! Need a goofy TRI suit so I can wear a sports bra. Running in a bathing suit without one..not recommended!
9. Climbing harder than you ever have before makes you soar faster than before!
10. I love to TRI!!!!

Finishing time: 2:14:34 (800meter swim, 13.4mi bike, 1.5mi run)

Slow Fat Triathlete

I have been slacking on this blog but am totally excited by one of my newest inspirations, The Slow Fat Triathlete, to blog my experiences, log my training, and race results. OMGoodness! If you are slow fat future triathlete, you've got to read this book! I am encouraged and ready to go! I even joined the Las Vegas Tri Club just this morning to get myself even more motivated! Jayne Williams- I am a fan!

Fat Boy 5K - Fun Run!

This is definitely one of my favorite runs of the year. Not because of the donuts, brats, and beer after the race. . . but because they actually take time off my total for my giant ass! They take off a second per pound. For me that equaled 3 whole minutes and 28 seconds! HOORAY! Although that really doesn't count for much since the same people still win (they get to take the time off too) It still gives me some vindication for running at my size! OH! And I almost forgot. The T-shirt is hilarious! Who wouldn't wanna run with a giant beer gut Elvis on a T!

Also, what was great about this run was that my honey was doing it with me! Although he wasn't really "with me" most of the time. I loved seeing his face at the finish line waiting for me!

Race Results: 39:33 (my real time 43:01)

love to run IN THE RAIN!

Is started out gray but the rain hadn't set it for the Run For A Wish 5K. My friend Katie and I kept moving to stay warm. Then right as the starting gun sounded so did the RAIN! It was great! It was like an adventure to slosh through the puddles and kick up the rocks and I pumped through the streets. I think I may try some more trail running after this!

Race Results: unbelievably slower than last time even though I had the rain to keep me cool 42:30 Average pace time 13:43 per mile

Diet Dee-lish Dish

I signed myself up for Weight Watchers and lost 1.6 pounds this week! I am liking their newer program using "filling foods" (which is basically the old core/flex plan combined).

At my meeting someone plugged Egg Mugs from HungryGirl.com. Sounded like an interesting quick and easy breakfast (or snacktime) meal so I gave it a try and YUM! I tried the Pizza Egg Mug but want to try the spinach and feta one next week. . .

Ingredients:
2 tbsp. canned crushed tomatoes
1/8 tsp. Italian seasoning
1/2 cup fat-free liquid egg substitute (like Egg Beaters Original)
1 wedge The Laughing Cow Light Original Swiss cheese
6 slices turkey pepperoni (like the kind by Hormel), chopped
1/2 tsp. reduced-fat Parmesan-style grated topping

Directions:
Season crushed tomatoes with Italian seasoning and set aside.

Spray a large microwave-safe mug lightly with nonstick spray. Add egg substitute and cheese wedge, breaking the cheese wedge into pieces as you add it. Microwave for 1 minute.

Stir gently, and then microwave for another 30 seconds.

Mix in seasoned tomatoes and pepperoni. Microwave for another 30 seconds, until scramble is just set.

Stir lightly, and then sprinkle with grated topping. Allow to cool a bit, and then ENJOY!

SLOW POKE...That's me!

Ran a rather depressing 5k today.
41:45!
I haven't ran that slow in over a year. YUCK!
Better hit that pavement a bit more...

P.S. Did I mention I gained 28 pounds since my half-marathon
in September? I wonder...

Back on THAT Road Again!

I haven't updated anything in so long!!!

I completed the Disney Half Marathon in September in under my goal time by 3 minutes...woohooo. It was awesome! Unfortunately, I lost my momentum after the race.

I don't know if it's the let down from finishing my giant half-marathon goal from the last year or lack of Anna (my running partner was injured) but I can't seem to get up and just go running. AND I GAINED BACK 9 POUNDS! ARGH!

So I signed myself up for the Turkey Trot 10K Thanksgiving weekend and strapped my running shoes back on yesterday, pressed play on my C25K training again (started on Week 4 and it was TOUGH!) and put myself back out on Sparkpeople.com again!

I hope this gets me back on the road!

Getting Darker, Getting Faster

Like the crazy girl I am, I talked Anna into running the E.T. Midnight 10K with me in Rachel, Nevada-A 2 1/2 hour drive away to a race that starts at 1am for the 10k-ers. So we strapped on our glow necklaces, headlamps, and matching alien green running tops and ran under the full moon. Seriously, I watched a group of coyotes cross the highway ahead of me...creeeeepy!

Even though I was recovering from an injury from our 9 miler 2 weeks before, I made a new personal record! Yea me!

Race Stats:
Placed: 24 out of 40
Distance:10K (even though it was really 6.47miles)
Total time: 1:20:45
Pace: 12:47 min/mile

Anna finished 14th! Way to go girl!!!!

Disneyland is only 4 weeks away!!!!

Bike Seat Rant

What sadistic person created the bicycle seat? It still feels like it is crammed up my tush 12 hours later!

Flush

I have decided to give "cleansing" a try. I have heard so many people talk about all the health benefits from cleansing. But man. My head is throbbing right now! And I have only been drinking the "lemonade" for 10 hours. How will I ever last 10 days?

The potion that I am brewing contains: 2 Tb Lemon Juice, 2 Tb Pure Organic Maple syrup, 1/10 tsp cayenne pepper and water.

Hope it is worth it! I have only had to run to the potty twice so far....

10K Completed!!! WooHooo!!!

Today was the day to up my mileage to 6 miles, so feeling very confident I figured, "Why not do a whole 10K and run 1/4 mile more?" So I did it! I feel great. I love running with Anna. Time and distance just fly by while we chat away!

10K Stats (unfortunately, including my 5 minute walking warm up padded it a little on the slow side):

Distance: 6.27 miles (plus 1 mile = 7.o5 total today)
Time: 1:25'49"
Pace: 13'40"
Calories burned:1064 WOW!

E.T. 10K HERE I COME!

Hotter Than HADES!!!

Seriously? Who signs up with for a race in LAS VEGAS. In SUMMER. Called RUNNING WITH THE DEVIL? The INSANE, that's who! Did I mention I have always been sensitive to the heat? Even suffered heat exhaustion a few times before? What was I thinking? I will never ever ever ever never do that again. I did not find heat exhaustion pleasant. It took six full days for the dehydration, fatigue, and just plain nasty feeling to go away.

But regardless, here are my STATS...pretty crummy, but I think they are amazing considering it was 95 DEGREES with NO SHADE, and UPHILL for a mile and a half. Did I mention I am NEVER doing this again?

5k Chip Time 43:45
Placed: tied with Ms. Anna for 2nd in our age group!!!!
Pace time 14:04
