Women ROCK! Triathlons

Women Rock at Rockport State Park was a great tri with fabulous weather- finally out of the HOT, HOT Las Vegas desert. It was a speedy bike course and I had my PR on my bike! And the run (read walk) was gorgeous through hills of wildflowers. This race course is definitely a keeper! I can't wait to do it again next year! (Note: I will camp in the park instead of waiting for the dreadful bus).

The smile of a girl who knows she rocked her bike today!

Race Times

Swim 750m: 26:49
Uber SLOW! What happened? I dunno. My goal was 18 - no where close!

T1:3:27

Bike 12.4mi: 53:07
Weeee!

T2 2:01

Run 5K: 44:17
Yes. That is S.L.O.W. BUT (there's a but) I am nursing my recovering knee surgery/heel spur/planters faciitis pain and am not suppose to run so I (ahem) strolled through the wildflowers a bit

TOTAL TIME: 2:09:39
That's 7 minutes faster! Can I get a Woot Woot!?!

An improvement of over a half an hour from last year!
Can't wait for Women Rock!

Don't be a FRED!

Totally unknown to me was this term "Fred". The name elites call us beginners when we do such things as leave our reflectors on, cover ourselves in chain grease, etc.

So my girlfriend and I headed out at 4am to volunteer and watch said pros at the Rage Triathlon at Lake Mead. Our goal: learn how to transition correctly (aka: not be a FRED)

Wow! It was amazing to watch what fast looks like! We were so busy body marking and running transition that I hardly got a chance to learn how to transition faster myself! I guess I will be a FRED for a while yet!

Sprint TRI Lessons #1

Today I did a "practice" triathlon out at Lake Mead with XCELL and was totally surprised by the results. Lesson learned:

1. I can run after biking almost 14 miles!
2. I can bike after swimming 800 meters!
3. I will finish IronGirl!
4. Wet suits make open water swimming 1000% better!
5. Pack an inhaler on my bike and in my water bottle for the run (oh, and...).
6. Don't forget a water bottle for the run!
7. Body Glide behind my knees too.
8. Oops! Need a goofy TRI suit so I can wear a sports bra. Running in a bathing suit without one..not recommended!
9. Climbing harder than you ever have before makes you soar faster than before!
10. I love to TRI!!!!

Finishing time: 2:14:34 (800meter swim, 13.4mi bike, 1.5mi run)

Slow Fat Triathlete

I have been slacking on this blog but am totally excited by one of my newest inspirations, The Slow Fat Triathlete, to blog my experiences, log my training, and race results. OMGoodness! If you are slow fat future triathlete, you've got to read this book! I am encouraged and ready to go! I even joined the Las Vegas Tri Club just this morning to get myself even more motivated! Jayne Williams- I am a fan!
